Now imagine what the dems want to do by nationalizing the oil industry. It is the Dems and some Republicans that are causing high gas prices by not allowing the oil companies to drill and refine more on our land.

It will be really great when we start drilling and refining what oil we can pump out of the ground in our country now so we can save a few cents a gallon for a few years.

I would like to believe that it's in our long term best interest to actually have oil underground that we can remove in the future.

Even if they started drilling today, it would be years before we would see any benefit. The cost of mounting the operations would be pretty staggering and they'd just pass those costs on to us in the form of higher gas prices anyway.

But I don't know everything about the oil industry so maybe I'm off base on my line of reasoning.

I think it's a deflated dollar that's causing high gas prices... and milk, and food, and porn prices.. This adjustment was a long time coming, not fun but it will eventually ease up once the dollar gets stronger. Increased crude consumption by China and others can cause brief but bearable shortages, but nothing that should cause the price to triple.

In the end the high prices will lead to better alternative energy supplies.

I think he's a great speaker, but I've never really trusted him. I trust him less and less the more I learn about him.

Wow, I have been saying much the same thing. He is a terrific speaker (even if there are 58 states) but I just can't vote for him knowing even the little there is to know about him.

The problem is there is plenty to know about his opponents and I don't want to vote for them either.

I will still vote for McCain even though I dont care much for any of them. Most folks will vote in this coming election to stop the other candidate from winning. Its pretty sad but I will hold my nose when I pull the lever for McCain. Lesser of evils. The dems will still think they win even if McCain wins the election. I just cant fathom the idea of Obama cutting defense budgets bigtime and counting on Russia to do the same and while Iran is building an arsenal of WMD. Obama is out of touch with reality.

On the flip side, we've got McCain who would have us attack every oil producing country in the middle east.

As a long time Republican I am a little frightened by my options.

I don't think the Democratically-controlled Congress would allow McCain to do any more damage beyond what we've already gotten ourselves into. (Then again, this Congress is pretty lame...) We need to make Iraq as stable as possible before we should be thinking about anything else.

I really don't understand the fear of McCain. The man has a much better grip than Bush ever has. He's not a Bush clone tho there is a marketing campaign to portray that image now.

One man does not run this country and we have problems when the man in charge doesn't have respect. Everyone respected Reagan. Then Bush 1 was the shadow of that era and We all know how Clinton lost his respect. Bush 2 had a chance to really unite the country and lead it somewhere but he led us to vengeance for his father in the interests of his buddies. The big oil guys love the president.

I think Hillary has gotten a super huge bum rap from Obama. I heard comment once that she should throw out the votes from Kentucky because exit poles showed they were racially biased. Fine I can accept that but I am not an idiot. Many of the Votes Obama has received are based on his race. I guarantee all those votes weren't based on researched information. This just proves how much our society lends itself to trend and marketing.

We are in a time when we have deeply committed our resources to the mess in Iraq. The country needs a leader who is familiar with those cost and I don't agree that McCain is any sort of war monger, just experienced @ the price of war. Bush hasn't even got a clue to McCains insight.
I also think everyone in power respects McCain on some level.

If DC was a car dealership Obama's the lube tech that just got a promotion from lot washer. McCain's like the Transmission Tech. I'll take the latter for putting my trust into.

I know several are hack jobs, but most appear in context.

I know his media skills are not that of Obama but we could do clips like that for anyone out there. His stance on the gay marriage has always been the same...civil union of some sort but marriage is man and woman. He has the experience knowing the tools of the government to effect the economy but always looks to other with more expertise. Taxes raised and lowered doesn't reflect what bills either... We all know we will be taxed, how is the question and I still think he has our interests over his own personal goals. I am not saying he's perfect but I think it's an easy choice for who is better to lead the country. My biggest view is that we have created Mid east L.A. thanks to George Bush.. it's a gangland in a power struggle after the Saddam vacuum. We will never irradicate terrorism much like we won't win the war on drugs... But we can't tax terrorism. I sure don't have the answers, I'll refer ya to Scott for those.lol

You people keep thinking the prsident and congress runs this country. You are all wrong. What runs this country is the big banking industry. The main objective for the big banks is to drive the american dollar down so much that they will bail us out like they did in the great depression before when the american dollar was backed by Gold. We use to be a industrialized nation all our industry has moved to thrid world countries. All america is now is for education medical and tourist. We have nothing to contribute to the world anymore so this is the beginning of the end so deal with it.

Ok - here's my high-level assessment of this.

In areas where the original message was shown to be "false" it was usually one of those "it depends on the meaning of is is" things... i.e. Obama was stating "facts" in politically advantageous, selective way. The same charge could be made towards the writer of the original email though, too.

Obfuscation is the name of the game - and whoever relies upon it might as well be lying. We've been force-fed a steady diet of obfuscation for nearly 8 years now. The point to take away here is that Obama is no different than ANY other politician in this regard.

It is no secret that Obama has the "Black Vote". A lot of that is simply because of the rally to make history. There is a grand excitement about Obama, but I wonder how many of those votes he would retain if McCains VP was Colin Powell? Altho he would be a VP, when the black community had a valid second option, what would result?

On a far out note, I really would like to see a what if situation if someone like Micheal Jordan ended up on the ticket? I mean hell, if theres gonna be someone in there with no real experience, at least he's a world icon and extremely successful.lol

If Powell is on the ticket with McCain he'd really do well.

Hey - Obama has people BRAINWASHED. Did you read the "What do you have against socialism?" quote from a close friend of mine? Keep in mind that this came from a guy who lives in a upscale suburb and who drives a BMW. Not exactly a person one would think would be decrying the evils of corporate greed and advocating for a socialist future... but it's happening all over.

Now the dems are voting to socialize the oil industry. It is not something I think would be in the best intrest of the USA. These dems have an agenda they really dont want the public to know about until after they take POWER :mad:

Look, the point is that neither of the big two parties is our friend. As a conservative and registered republican I was appalled by some of the decisions by our current government, none the least of which is the federal drug program for seniors we started. I never saw how we could be saying that Social Security was going bankrupt and was out of control but then turn right around and start a brand new entitlement.

It's all buying and selling votes. There is no true difference with some of the current leadership. The republican leadership is "moderate"-a nice way to say they want to buy your votes on the cheap whereas democrats want to pay your way for the entirety of your life-and will continue to sale out the conservative part of it's base so long as it knows WE have no where else to go with our votes. I may vote for McCain (I have gone back and forth on this) but it is hardly an endorsement. It would be more a vote against Obama and THAT is exactly what he and the "Moderate" republican leadership is counting on.

So what to do? I dunno. I my vote Liberatarian this go 'round. There is much I need to learn about their candidate. The long and the short is that you can vote against Obame or against McCain but please, please, please be sure of what you are voting FOR.
